Project summary

Door management around the clock for employees and visitors

Jan Yperman Hospital, located in Ieper, is a merger of three smaller hospitals and provides high-quality multidisciplinary medical specialists to meet the needs of patients in the region. The hospital has 569 beds and employs nearly 1,000 people.

Jan Yperman Hospital has all the usual aspects of controlling access to facilities and equipment effectively so that (as in most hospitals) the doors are open to the public around the clock. Everything from access to the boiler room, mechanical room, generator and electrical switch control rooms to IT servers and medical equipment must be managed.

Aside from security, health and safety compliance is a major issue; as well as ensuring that only those employees who are authorized/who have permission to use the facilities, equipment, rooms, pharmaceuticals, medications and vehicles have access. To track keys, a paper registration system was used that was extremely inefficient and unreliable. Indistinguishable signatures, confusion about who was doing key pickup and drop-off, people forgetting to re-enter returned keys, and knowing who had access to which keys was fraught with problems.

All keys are now stored in two proxSafe maxx systems, one is located at the reception and one at the rescue service. Since then, the keys are always returned on time, because the employees know that they are responsible for the safe and reliable system. There is no way not to return the keys, because if they don't, the proxSafe system knows exactly who has the particular keys. Two proxSafe maxx systems at two locations contain a total of 64 keys or key bundles.

Certified access control technology was integrated for a high security application. "No more wasting time looking for keys."
