LOREL - logident, UDL 100

RFID on forklift optimizes warehouse logistics

The company LOREL deals with planning, developing and application of service logistics in the area of storing, management and JIT-delivery (Just-in-time) for industries and trade. As full-service-logistics partner for Daimler in Bremen LOREL provides for the delivery of all components for the time-sensitive assembly lines. All convenience goods are temporarily stored in a high-bay warehouse of its own. In the past LOREL had had high rack warehouses with 4 storage levels. The forklift staff had to identify the storage location with a barcode scanner first and then had to enter the data into the SAP Frontend or Inconso WMS (warehouse management system) at the forklift terminal. Now the new high rack warehouse contains 8 storage levels and a safe storage location identification is not possible any longer via barcode.

The companies Inconso, noFilis and deister electronic have realized a solution for secure storage location based on RFID. Part and parcel of this solution is the UHF RFID reader UDL 100 from deister electronic which has been specially developed for use on forklifts. Its robust and compact design with integrated antenna makes the UDL 100 ideal for safe operations even under tough environmental conditions in warehouse logistics. Mounted between the forks on the fork carrier it identifies the storage location reliably up to the highest level. With the RFID project in Bremen LOREL takes over the part of an outrider. Since the new warehouse has been introduced in April 2009 16 forklifts with RFID readers from deister electronic are recognizing 16,000 storage locations and sending their information to the RFID-middleware crossTalk.
