RFID for automated material inspection - Daimler has been optimizing its factory automation with e-KANBAN

For reliable Ident-technology, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) qualifies for touchless data transferring. Daimler has ben optimizing its supply chain management through so-called RFID Workflow and delivery times are minimized by using e-KanBan. Planning & stocking costs, as well as error quotes, are therefore reduced. Gear train (transmission) production used to depend on many different work procedures prior to introducing the new RFID systems. Accessories were ordered through suppliers, incoming material was checked by barcode and registered by an SAP-system. After the finishing of the product, inventory correction was carried out. Several times a day an on spot check was necessary. Where to find the material? What needs to be re-ordered? What is left of the a material? deister electrontronic in cooperation with SAP & noFilis, developed a system which optimizes availabitly of materials, reduces stock and and improves delivery times. Central elements of deister electronic are: reader gate with two UHF-readers UDL 500 and data concentration unit, DCU 1. With the new system, each assembly plant should be able to always replenish their material automatically. Transponders are laminated into KANBAN-cards, which are located inside the material receptacle/ container. When a 90 container vehicle is driving through the gate, the entire delivery is being registered within seconds. It is immediately visible, which materials need reordering. If external suppliers are included in the system, they will then automatically be informed of the new stock amounts. Daily inventory is omitted, high stock reduced and delivery options increased.
